Fabulously Styled: Beauty and the Beast

After a recent trip to Disney World I was struck with such inspiration after seeing all of the Beauty + The Beast aspects to the Magic Kingdom, including the new restaurant Be Our Guest. It had me thinking how amazing it would be to create a wedding that combined the classic elegance of Beauty and The Beast while maintaining an elegant modern touch.

Fabulously Styled: Winter Soltice Inspired

quote-marks-blog“Science…is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense…is surely spiritual.” -Carl Sagan.

Gathering those you love for a Winter Solstice Wedding has a particular beauty for those who live in the great North. This is the “longest night” appreciated by those who love the cool beauty and romanticism of the starry heavens and also the warm beauty of that greatest star…the return of the sun. From this day forward, our sun will begin rising earlier and setting later, as the tilt of our axis and our annual orbit determines on this particular date, and so it makes for a lovely and auspicious time to begin a marriage!

The rich cosmological theme of the styling for this wedding shoot symbolizes the astronomical significance of seasonal constellations and our soulful place in our home solar system. There is a playful dynamic between the science of astronomy and the myths of astrology. In relation to love and marriage there is an ode toward starborn lovers, and also a nod toward that moment of “yes” within the eternal source of love; two stars within the vast infinity of the universe. And, of course, in the starlit depths of winter there is the extraordinary beauty of a celebratory candlelit feast!

Fabulously Wed: Rooftop Wedding at the Oviatt Penthouse

It’s another FABULOUS day at Fabulously Designed! Today we are thrilled to bring you the joyous union of Cory and Randy. These two handsome guys are absolutely incredible. The enormous love they have for one another translates so well in their photos. Prior to their wedding ceremony, Cory and Randy gathered together with their loved ones at the Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) for group photos. This location is richly appointed and filled with history. Both the architecture and the design there is truly beautiful. And it doesn’t get better than The Oviatt Penthouse for a ceremony. On the top of the roof – surrounded by all the other buildings in downtown Los Angeles, it a truly magical location for a wedding! Check out this beautiful celebration of love…

Fabulously Styled: Steampunk Wedding Inspiration

You may have read our post title today and wondered, “What is Steampunk?” Well, dear FAB ones, Steampunk is essentially a mix of science fiction meets the Victorian age and/or the ‘Wild West’ era with touches of the Industrial Revolution tossed in. Each time I think of Steampunk, movies such as The Time Machine and Journey to the Center of the Earth come to mind. This very unique style is growing in popularity in the world of wedding and event design! Think clockworks, cogs, monacles, goggles, gears, corsets, top hats, rich textures, deep colors mixed with browns and tans. Best expressed visually, today we are sharing a really awesome styled shoot to provide yu with some really incredible inspiration. I especially love the bride’s hair style. So unique, so Steampunk. Warning: if you want your wedding to be full of pretty pastels and soft blooms, look away now!

Fabulously Designed: New Year’s Eve 2014 in Las Vegas

This year I had the honor and distinct pleasure of being asked to work as a freelance floral designer with Destinations By Design, a huge design house in Las Vegas. In addition to their staff, there were five of us who came in to freelance from locally in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and one designer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin! A total of 11 designers in all.

We designed nearly 2,000 arrangements for 11 Las Vegas Strip Casinos. Worked 6 days straight at 13-14 hours per day. It was hard work and tough on the feet and hands but incredibly gratifying and lots of fun. It was quite the experience for me. I had never worked at such volume EVER! The most I have ever done is 275 arrangements for one client over the course of a couple of weeks. I gained so much from this experience and came back home exhausted but also fired up about implementing some fundamental operation changes within my own business model. I was privileged to setup at Planet Hollywood (165 tables) with my new friend, Jennifer French. And I popped into Paris Hotel (340 tables) and Caesar’s (280 tables) where the largest parties of the New Year were taking place to show you a little of what we worked tirelessly to achieve.

From behind-the-scenes all the way to setup on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas, the photos cannot begin to capture the actual in-person experience. Enjoy!
